What I'm Reading Wednesday

Do you think I could get a new hashtag going on Instagram? Instead of scrolling through dozens of duck faces and long sentimental comments about how much everyone loves their best friend/mom/girlfriend/random stranger that they think is hot, #wcw could be a thing of the past and #wirw could be in.  There would be intellectual comments discussing main characters and plots and photos of books with vintage filters.  It would be as close to heaven on earth as you could get.

So, to kick off this new trend, I present to you what I'm reading Wednesday (warning, I'm one of those people who read a ridiculous number of books at the same time):

To start off the lineup, we have a classic - The Odyssey by Homer.  For the school trip that I'm taking to Europe this summer, we have to do a report on three books, and being myself, I gravitated towards one of the hardest books on the list . . . which I'm regretting a little.  It's taking me forever to get into this one, but it's getting easier and easier.  I love Greek mythology, so that's a definite plus for this book.

Next, is a surprise book - When God Writes Your Love Story by Eric and Leslie Ludy. I didn't really plan on reading it, but giving it to a friend.  However, I thought it would be more meaningful to her if I read it first.  After six chapters, I am so hooked.  The Ludys do a fantastic job in explaining and presenting their points in a very personal, interesting way.  My favorite line so far is:
"Inviting God to write the chapters  of our love story involves work on our part – not just a scattered prayer here and there, not merely a feeble attempt to find some insight by flopping open the Bible every now and then. It's seeking Him on a daily basis, putting Him in the first place at all times, discovering His heart."

Third, we have the currently popular The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.  I exchanged a book I got for Christmas for this one, and I absolutely love it.  I'm trying to read it before the movie isn't in theaters anymore because we all know that the Golden Rule is to read the book before seeing the movie.  Duh.  Told from the viewpoint of Death, it is extremely well-written and intriguing.

The next book is the unfortunate one of the pack - The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner.  Since I'm reading it for a school project, I can't drop it.  I've read the first quarter of the book and it's very vague, confusing and sporadic. Hopefully once we have a class discussion, I'll understand it better.  It's full of symbolism, which is super cool. I just wish that I knew what the heck was going on.

Finally, we have my forever and always favorite - the Bible! This week I'm focusing on the passage that also happens to be my school's theme verse for the year.

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
                                                                                                - Colossians 3:12-14

What are you reading this Wednesday?  Have you read any of my current reads/ want to read any?  What did you think of them?

Love,
Allison
